MAPs Program

Livelihood support through MAPs (Medicinal and aromatic plants) conservation and cultivation.

Nepal is geographically remote, hilly and mountain country in south Asia between China in the North and India in the south where the extreme poverty ratio increased day by day due to harsh climate, tough topography and limited option to support their livelihood in the Himalayas. So that, HEED Nepals task has been started focusing remote people in the Himalaya teaching them to cultivate medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) in the remote mountain areas with the support of The Mountain Institute (TMI, Nepal based Asia regional office since 2009 to reduce poverty and extreme increased migration to the urban areas through a project improving livelihoods through Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) production and conservation in the wild and teaching them to sell in the market. The culturally early collection has been stopped after the project taught them harvesting time. The climate change in the Himalaya region could be a reason of destroying the high land MAPs species and trees as well as bushes.

The agro enterprises enable the people to earn more money which meet their basic needs and able to pay the childrens school fees and minimum treatments.
